Helping you write every day

Set a daily target and Waxcap keeps count as you write. If you know you can’t quite make every day, rest days keep your streak going when you need a break.

The daily habit

Come back each day and just write.

Graham Greene, author of Brighton Rock and The Quiet American, wrote five hundred words a day. He counted as he went, stopping when he reached that figure. This would sometimes mean ending the day mid-sentence, so that the next morning he knew exactly where to pick up.

Many writers have attempted some version of it. They plan and they write, and they pull together a 10,000-word draft. Then life intervenes and that file stops being opened. Waxcap is built for starting your writing and then coming back to it as often as you can.

If 500 words per day isn’t right for you, set your own target. It doesn't have to be every day either. Know that Sundays are always busy with the family? Mark them as rest days and your streak waits for you instead of punishing you.

At 500 words a day, an 80,000-word novel would take 160 days.

Change the number as you go, or hide the statistics if targets aren't for you.

What else it could do for you.

A simple editor with the tools you need

Waxcap uses Markdown to help you quickly format as you type without the distraction of buttons – but they are there if you need them. The formatting fades as you write, with the bonus of typewriter scrolling and focus modes when you want even fewer distractions.

Your whole book in one place

Keep all of your chapters, character notes, research and the scenes you've cut in one project, and open any two side by side in the split editor.

Ready for an agent when you're done

Export a manuscript in the format agents ask for, or an ePub to share directly with readers.

Remember what happens in every chapter

A short synopsis of any chapter, made on your Mac automatically with Apple Intelligence.
