Write 500 Words software licence

Write 500 Words is sold through the Mac App Store. Your purchase is governed by Apple's Standard End-User Licence Agreement, supplemented by the following terms specific to Write 500 Words.

  • Grant of licence. Terrible Mushroom Ltd grants you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Write 500 Words on devices associated with your Apple ID, subject to Apple's EULA and these terms.
  • Permitted use. You may use Write 500 Words for any purpose, personal or commercial. You own the output you create. There are no limits on how you may publish, sell, or distribute work written in the app.
  • Restrictions. You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, redistribute, or resell the software itself.
  • Updates. Updates to the current version of Write 500 Words are included at no additional cost. A future major upgrade may require a separate purchase.
  • Warranties and liability. The software is provided "as is" to the fullest extent permitted by law. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes your statutory consumer rights.
  • Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.

Apple's App Store terms also apply

All Write 500 Words purchases are processed by Apple through the Mac App Store. Apple's Standard EULA, refund policy, and terms of service govern the transaction itself. Where these terms and Apple's terms conflict, Apple's terms prevail for App Store matters (payment, download, refund) and these terms prevail for matters specific to Write 500 Words.

Trademarks

Apple, the Apple logo, Apple Books, Apple ID, Apple Intelligence, Family Sharing, iCloud, Liquid Glass, macOS, Pages, and SF Symbols are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries and regions. Microsoft and Microsoft Word are trademarks of the Microsoft group of companies. Kindle is a trademark of Amazon.com, Inc., or its affiliates. Google Docs is a trademark of Google LLC. Kobo is a trademark of Rakuten Kobo Inc. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners. References to these products and services on this website and in Write 500 Words are made for compatibility purposes only and do not imply endorsement.

Open source

Write 500 Words is built on top of the following open-source libraries. Each licence is reproduced verbatim in the app's About window (Apple menu ▸ About Write 500 Words ▸ Acknowledgements).

The bundled Pride and Prejudice sample text is the novel by Jane Austen, in the public domain worldwide; the transcription is sourced from Project Gutenberg. The Submit and Manuscript-style export presets follow standard manuscript-submission formatting. Editor and export typography uses fonts bundled with macOS, licensed by Apple from their respective foundries.
