Privacy
Terrible Mushroom Ltd collects and holds as little personal data as possible. This page sets out what is collected, why, and your rights under UK GDPR.
Last updated: 10 May 2026
What is collected
- Email correspondence. When you email the studio, your email address and the content of your message are held in a standard email mailbox for as long as is reasonable for supporting you and keeping a record of the exchange.
- Website visits. This website is served through Cloudflare, a content delivery network. Cloudflare receives every request to the site as part of routing it. Standard request data (IP address, request path, timestamp, user agent) is processed by Cloudflare for security, caching, and routing, and produces aggregated traffic statistics (request volume, country, top pages) that the studio can see in the Cloudflare dashboard. No additional analytics is enabled: the site sets no cookies, runs no JavaScript analytics or tracking, and serves no third-party advertising. Cloudflare's privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
What is not collected
- The Write 500 Words app contains no analytics and no telemetry. It does not phone home.
- No account is required to use the app. Nothing links your writing to you personally.
- No individual visitor is identified, and no person is tracked across sessions, sites, or devices.
iCloud sync
Write 500 Words can sync your projects across your Macs through Apple's iCloud Drive. The data syncs directly between your own devices through Apple's infrastructure; Terrible Mushroom Ltd cannot read, see, log, or otherwise access the contents of your projects, and is not the data controller for personal data processed by Apple in providing the iCloud service. Apple's privacy policy applies to that processing; see apple.com/legal/privacy.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
Legal bases for processing (UK GDPR)
- Legitimate interest for responding to email correspondence and maintaining access logs for security.
- Contract performance for any support related to a purchase made through the Mac App Store.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR and equivalent EU legislation you have the right to access, rectify, erase, port, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email support@terriblemushroom.com. Complaints may be directed to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
International transfers
The studio is based in the United Kingdom. Email is handled by a mainstream email provider. The website is served through Cloudflare, a US-based company operating a global edge network; visitor request data is processed by Cloudflare in the country where the request is routed, which may include the United States and other countries outside the UK and EU. Where any international transfer of personal data occurs, it takes place under the standard safeguards recognised by UK and EU data protection law (including, where applicable, Standard Contractual Clauses).
Data controller
Terrible Mushroom Ltd (company number 17127662) is the data controller for personal data processed in connection with this website and Write 500 Words.
Children
Write 500 Words is not directed at children under the age of thirteen, and the studio does not knowingly collect personal data from them.
